Considering the sheer number of people in the world, all the different regions, cultures and belief systems, it is natural to assume that regardless of the similarities people may have, we are all different and have different needs and capabilities. Despite the diversity in people, there are certain ways that humans behave and interact that categorize them. In a similar manner, people are often categorized as the sheep or as the wolf. While the sheep move around in herds, tread only familiar territory and don’t do anything too risky, the lone wolf stays on his own, is adventurous and doesn’t shy away from a risk or two. Applying this particular categorization to businesses, the sheep mentality seems the safer option on the surface. Doing what they know best, ensuring stability and following known patterns, the sheep mentality seems good for employees of any business. Although seemingly wild and uncontrollable, the wolf mentality is actually the more desirable one.
Ambitious, ferocious and always looking beyond known horizons, people with wolf mentalities have the potential to transform business and take it to new heights. History shows that all the greatest achievements in the world were accomplished by people that went one step ahead, overcame their intellectual confines and achieved greatness. Indoctrinated to believe that following the same pathway as those before them, the sheeple (or the people with a sheep mentality) are conditioned to believe that there are certain things they can do and certain things they shouldn’t even dream of doing. From a college degree to a fairly well paying job in some of the best known organizations, a vast majority of people never think beyond this indoctrinated lifestyle and never pursue life with an impact that is also fulfilling.
The main reason why 99% people never do something great or achieve excellence is because they are all stuck in the same confining habits that leave no room for growth. Stuck in a perpetual cycle of the same monotony, the 99% people cling to what they know and never have any breakthroughs. Free from limited thinking, the remaining 1% people take risks and challenge norms. Always passionate to know and do more, the lone wolves explore, understand and do things that have never been done before. While this mentality is relatively riskier and less stable, it is also considerably more tenacious, gritty and determined. History shows that the biggest revolutionaries and game-changers were all lone wolves, refusing to bow down to a life of indoctrination and a mindset that there’s only certain things you can do.
In the 21st century, businesses also have to do more than ever before to simply survive. But if a business envisions growth, profits and overall zenith, they must adopt a lone wolf mentality. With a company full of sheeple, conditioned to follow orders and not think out of the box, the company may simply survive, however; it is only by cultivating the tenacious risk-taking mentality of the lone wolf and consequent creative thinking that seemingly wild but innovative ideas can arise that can truly take the business and the organization to new excellent heights.
